Why I’m Building bookmrks.io

After trying every bookmarking app (yes, even Raindrop), I decided to build my own. bookmrks.io is a smarter, tag-first bookmarking tool with clean URLs, AI features, and built-in sharing - built for curious minds who don’t just save the web, but want to explore it too.

I’ve tried nearly every bookmarking app out there - seriously. If it let me save a link, tag it, or make it look halfway organized, I’ve probably used it.

And of course, the best alternative out there is Raindrop.io. It’s well-designed and does a lot of things right. But after spending enough time with it, I started feeling like I was trying to organize my digital life with a beautiful - but dusty - filing cabinet. No real updates in a while. Great ideas half-finished. And some pretty frustrating limits.

So I did what any indie hacker with too many saved links and too much stubborn energy does:
I decided to build my own.

Enter: bookmrks.io - my take on modern bookmarking. Built for the internet hoarder in me, and maybe in you too.

What’s Broken (and What I’m Fixing)

Here’s what I wanted - and what most bookmarking tools just didn’t deliver.

🏷 No more tags + collections confusion

Collections and tags? Why? It's like trying to label your suitcase and also pack it into a suitcase. In bookmrks.io, there are only tags - but if you favorite one, it acts like a collection. Simple, elegant, flexible.

🌳 Hierarchical tags (that don’t hurt)

Nested tags are amazing for structure... when they don’t feel like a chore. Inspired by Bear Notes, bookmrks.io lets you use hierarchical tags effortlessly - just type something like #reading/design/ui and it just works.

🔁 Duplicate handling

No more “Didn’t I save this already?” moments. Bookmrks automatically detects and handles duplicates. Raindrop, I love you, but… this one drove me mad.

✨ Clean, normalized URLs

Say goodbye to bloated URLs with utm_source, ref, aff, and all those annoying tracking codes. Bookmrks.io automatically cleans and normalizes URLs so your library stays tidy.

🧠 AI-powered organization

AI suggests tags, helps summarize content, and will soon offer even more powerful tools to help you actually make sense of your growing collection. It’s not just about saving links - it’s about using them.

🫂 Social features - because the web is better when it’s shared

I don’t want to save everything in a vault. I want to share the gems I find, and discover great stuff from others too. Bookmrks.io is built for sharing and discovery - not just hoarding.

🧑‍💻 Workspaces for different contexts

Personal stuff, work research, side projects? Bookmrks.io will support workspaces, so you can keep everything organized without mixing your cooking blog saves with your AI deep dives.

Built for Me. Shared With You.

Honestly, this all started because I needed it. But the more I build, the more I realize: I’m not the only one who wants a cleaner, smarter, more shareable way to bookmark the web.

bookmrks.io isn’t just another bookmarking app. It’s a little rebellion against messy tools, outdated systems, and the idea that your saved web should be locked away and forgotten.

It’s still early. It’s evolving. But if any of this resonates with you, come along for the ride.

Let’s build something better together.
Let’s make bookmarking joyful again.
